Transatlanticism

Death Cab For Cutie

Death Cab For Cutie’s transitional fourth record is loosely themed around states of separation and connection in relationships. With songs sonically seeping into each other, and the record even ending on the same note as it began, cues were drawn from different points in the record to create a new cover that connects these ideas visually.

Using a single thread, separate points were plotted across a large sheet of paper to form a map of the constellations. This tangible object then forms the basis for the cover art; revealing the networks of the chart on the front, and the intuitive process of their making on the reverse.
